Originally founded in 1885, Roedean School is one of the most prestigious independent boarding schools in the UK. It moved to its current site in 1898 and offers excellent facilities, including 40 acres of playing fields and space for leisure activities, several tennis courts, a large indoor sports hall and a fabulous indoor swimming pool with spectacular views out to sea.
This beautiful school also provides art and dance studios, comfortable boarding houses and a spacious dining room.
Roedean is located in a stunning setting, overlooking Brighton Marina. It is a short bus ride away from the popular seaside city of Brighton, giving easy access to the Sussex towns of Hastings and Eastbourne, as well as Gatwick Airport.
Courses available at Roedean
Accommodation
- Students are accommodated in mostly single rooms in one of the four inter connected houses in the main building, or in the additional house at the eastern end of the campus.
- There are limited twin and triple rooms available.
- All bedrooms are comfortable and furnished with a bed, wardrobe and desk for each student.
- There are showers, toilets and a bathroom situated on each floor at either end of the main corridor.
- Boys and girls are accommodated in separate houses. Each house has a supervised common area for relaxing after classes.
Facilities
- Sports facilities: Large indoor sports hall, extensive playing fields, tennis courts
- Classrooms: Most have interactive whiteboards. Maximum of 12 students per class.
- Common areas: There are commons areas in each boarding house. The ground floor of the main building and the main hall in Keswick House are used for evening entertainment.
- Dining Hall: Self-service hot and cold meals in a well-equipped, food hall in the main school building.
- Swimming Pool: Indoor heated swimming pool, with life-guard.
- Email: A computer room is available for use under supervision.
- Shops: Nearest shops are at Brighton Marina, a short walk away. Students will be supervised when visiting the shops.
After class activities*
Students will receive a variety of evening activities on site as well as occasional off site options. typical evening activities include:
- Themed discos, karaoke, quizzes, talent shows, bowling, treasure hunts, cinema, dance competition, football tournament, team games, arts and crafts.

Excursions**
Excursions take place every Wednesday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday. Excursions are normally by coach.

- Hastings: Historic seaside town, with shops, amusements and modern art gallery.

- Arundel Castle: A spectacular, fully-restored medieval castle.
- Canterbury: An historic cathedral city, and the centre of the Church of England.
- Oxford: Home to England’s oldest university, you’ll enjoy exploring Oxford’s grand buildings, containing museums, shops and colleges.
- Portsmouth: The UK’s only island city, with beaches, shops and historic ships to explore.
- Thorpe Park: A leading theme park offering "over thirty extreme rides and attractions"
- Hampton Court Palace: A 16th century, large and impressive palace with extensive gardens.
- Windsor: Visit the Queen’s favourite weekend home. The oldest, and largest, inhabited castle in the world

Train
Trains from London to Brighton take approximately 1 hour. Roedean is approximately 10 minutes from the station by taxi.
Ferry
Roedean is 20 minutes from Newhaven Port by car, with ferries sailing daily to Dieppe, France.
Helicopter
Helicopters may land on the school playing fields with prior permission only.
